Be. Still.

a grounding tool for reflection

I want to thank all of you who so generously shared with me!

Heartfelt shares of struggles we women feel in our sixties.

While no two looked alike, there were some common threads.

Most of us still live very much in and with the roles we’ve had for a long time.

Career, kids (although adults), partners, maybe elderly parents, maybe grandchildren. Possible illnesses.

And at the same time we have a longing to be fully immersed in a life designed by us, and a desire to follow what fulfils us.

Sometimes it might feel like we are standing between two opposing views, trying to hold both with equal measure. Having to balance the two worlds.

Quite often the noise of the well-honed roles becomes so loud that it makes it hard to hear what our longings and desires are. They are a whispers that get drowned in the loud rock music that is our daily life.

Lowering the noise and hearing ourselves takes practice.

I would like to offer you something out of my toolbox.

A moment of dropping in. A moment of stillness. A pause.

Be it in the middle of your day or for when you finished one task and are switching to something completely different.

Listen in.

A grounding as a tool FOR reflection

Stillness.

Stillness, rest, relaxation is the pause to feel. Feel what is there and be with it.

Sometimes it is hard to be with ourselves. But being present to the feelings and sensations in our body creates intimacy with ourselves and in turn allows us to become more present with others.

We live in a world where push and getting-it-done-at-all-cost are celebrated and made a priority. So giving ourselves time to be still becomes a radical act of self-care!

Relaxation calms the mind and opens us up to the flow of our emotions. We can let go of holding on to the effort of being productive at all times. And something wonderful happens in the rest, the stillness. We can hear ourselves! We can feel our emotions and we can open to our inner guidance. The stillness and relaxation becomes our source for intuition.

Stillness and rest can be one of the most difficult practices- I know it is for me. So, know you’re not alone.

There are moments where my directive brain and the mental loops take over.

The pressure builds and my whole body contracts. My creativity gets bound in this pressure and nothing flows.

The only way out is to surrender into stillness, rest and relaxation.

It might not be the same for you and there will still be something to explore in stillness.

In getting close to the ground, in allowing us to put down our swords for a moment and feel held.

With love and pleasure,

Theres
